NEW DELHI: "More women are drinking and women are drinking more", a new survey on alcohol consumption pattern among the fairer sex in Delhi has revealed. Rising affluence, aspirations, societal pressure and exposure to a different lifestyle is driving women to experiment with alcohol, stated the survey, conducted by the Community Against Drunken Driving (CADD) among 5,000 womenaged between 18 to 70 in Delhi.

Why India's illegal online pet market thrives despite government guidelines

A recent notification by the Animal Welfare Board of India brings the focus back on illicit marketplaces for buying pets online. On 9 July, the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) wrote a letter to the IT ministry asking it to restrict animals sales via unregistered websites. Without explicitly mentioning any websites, the AWBI noted that “various” e-commerce companies were selling animals without registering with the State Animal Welfare Boards. The IT ministry, it said, should thus limit such trading.

New data recording system to better analyse road accidents

The Road Ministry's attempt to record road accident data in a particular format — comprising 55 fields — has been accepted by the Home Ministry's Interoperable Criminal Justice System (ICJS). Also, the Home Ministry's software for recording accident data in such a format is available to police stations and public from April, according to the Road Accidents in India Report for 2017.

Michael Spies Has Become Sailing's Guru of Speed

Before Sunday's race, Michael Spies of Australia had sailed the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 43 times. In 1999, he won after breaking the race record by half a day. In 2003, Spies won again. He also has helped fellow sailors find the right boats and refit them into superior racing yachts. His latest effort is the Maritimo, a 54-foot racing yacht he found in the United States for Bill Barry-Cotter, a former motorboat racing champion who also races sailboats.
